Exhausting. Overwhelming. And utterly avoidable.

Choosing a tarot deck goes waaaaaayy beyond aesthetics; it's about discovering a personal guide in card form. Let’s embark on this journey together to find the tarot deck that is waiting to become a part of your personal odyssey.

Read on, fellow tarot nerd, to unlock the secrets to finding a tarot deck that resonates with your soul, as we debunk myths and guide you through selecting your mystical companion.

The First Step in Your Tarot Journey - Busting Myths.

Have you ever wondered what makes a tarot deck more than just a pack of cards? It's the personal connection, the way it feels in your hands, the way the images speak to you.

Choosing your first tarot deck—or even your next one—is a bloody exciting step in your tarot journey, one that sets the tone for everything that follows.

Let’s burst the bubbles of myth together and walk you through the practical magic of connecting with your ideal tarot deck.

Pick Your Pack – No Fairy Tale Required

So you’ve heard the stories, right? The ones where mystical decks find their way to you through serendipitous whispers of fate?

While it's a charming notion, waiting for a deck to waltz into your life might mean you’ll miss out on the one that’s calling your name from a shop window or an artist’s website. Let's not leave it to the storybooks; your perfect deck is out there, waiting for you to reach out and bring it into your world.

Visual Appeal: The Art That Speaks to You

Visuals are powerful, aren't they? They can make your heart skip a beat or your mind wander into realms unknown. When it comes to tarot decks, the imagery is everything. It's not just about pretty pictures; it's about finding the scenes and symbols that stir something within you. Whether it’s the traditional Rider-Waite or the contemporary cosmic whirls of a modern artist, let the visuals be your guide.

Symbolism: Your Intuitive Language

Symbols are the language of the subconscious, and every tarot deck has its own dialect.

Some are as clear as day, while others are shrouded in mystical ambiguity, whispering secrets only you can understand.

The key? Find a deck whose symbolism lights up pathways in your mind, making your intuitive leaps as exhilarating as a cosmic dance.

Exploring Different Types of Decks

There are countless tarot decks available today, each with its own theme and energy.

From the classic Rider-Waite deck known for its straightforward symbolism to the visually stunning The Wild Unknown, which uses nature imagery to tell its stories.

Then there's the Thoth Tarot, rich with esoteric wisdom and complex imagery. Which one calls to you? Is it the bold colours or the mystical themes? Or, will it be the Connected Collective Tarot Deck... if I ever finish artworking the bloody thing :)

Listen to your inner voice when choosing your cards - they are yours, and yours alone, after all.

Intuitive Connection: Finding Your Deck's Soul

Ever had a "just click" moment with someone? That's what you're looking for with your tarot deck. It should feel like a friend that knows you inside out.

Sometimes, you find it in the most unexpected places. It could be in a bustling marketplace, a quiet bookstore, or even through the glow of your screen.

When you find 'The One,' trust that gut feeling, even if it's as wild as a leap into the unknown.

Touchy-Feely Beats Clicky-Scrolly (to me)

Online shopping is fantastic, but when it comes to tarot decks, for me - nothing beats the old-fashioned touch-and-feel experience.

The weight of the cards, the gloss of the imagery, the energy that pulses through them when you hold a deck in your hands—these are things that a screen can’t convey.

Whenever possible, meet your potential deck in person and let the magic of physical presence guide your choice.

Card Quality and Feel: The Tactile Connection

Imagine this: cards fluttering between your fingers, edges smooth as pebbles in a stream. Quality isn’t just about longevity; it’s about how the cards feel in your hands as you shuffle them and lay them out before you.

The right deck feels like an extension of your being, effortlessly bridging the gap between your intuition and the stories the cards want to tell.

Personal Stories: Finding the Perfect Deck

Everyone has a story about the deck that chose them. For some, it’s a gift from a loved one that opens doors to unseen worlds; for others, it’s a fateful encounter in a place least expected.

I remember the first time I held my favourite - and for years, only - deck.

Side note, I didn't really know that you could / should / can have other tarot cards. If one deck is all you have and feel called to, great. For others, I'm jealous of the bookcase of decks you have! I need to up my game.

My Nan gave me the Juliet Sharman Burke Beginners Tarot gift set from Waterstones when I was 13. On reflection, whilst yes - it was because she wanted me to learn and grow – it was also to p*** my mother off! I was fortunate that I didn’t need to read the book that came with it, and I had an instant, innate connection with these little bits of card in my hands.

It felt like these cards, this deck, were speaking to me, ready to start… and I’ve not put them down since.

In Conclusion: Embrace Your Tarot Quest

Choosing your tarot deck isn’t a race; it's a personal adventure, a treasure hunt.

It's about so much more than finding a tool for divination; it's about discovering a companion for your soul.

Don't rush it— take your time, explore with an open heart, and let your deck find you, just as much as you find it.

Enjoy the process and let your tingles guide you.
